Hi there. This bulletin follows our successful
presentations to the City Council members last evening on 6/27.
The overall consensus has been that the Council is impressed with the
importance of our doggy dilemma. They were also introduced to the
legitimacy of "K-9ing".
They were given copies of our signed
petition which topped off at more than 300 signatures!
Also, they
were given a map of the Downtown Park and the site we have chosen for a
potential off leash enclosed area in the southeast corner. In addition
this also described our request for our usual hours of play twice daily to be
off leash...as an alternative to a fenced in area for smallish/gentle giants to
romp in.
During the presentations, Pattie Grimm set up her slide show of some of our
pooches as part of her presentation. It ran over the course of the
speeches given by myself, Pattie and last but NEVER least, Kathleen Cole.
The pups probably upstaged us by far!
There was feedback from one council member who stated that the primary cause
for alarm comes from all the park user complaints against doggies who
"exist" in the parks. These pets may be on or off leash, and
there are those folks out there who would like to see all the parks ban
dogs. So, we face an uphill battle and have quite a long road ahead until
change occurs.
The council feedback to us that this is also a Parks Dept. concern and that
they will be addressing the off leash issues in the Downtown Park and Bellevue
at Large.
We are currently in contact with the Parks Dept. and will
continue to receive updates on their findings.
Thank you people again for all your support! We are urging everyone to
write letters, emails, etc. to the City Council so that they are constantly
reminded of our pursuits for our pooches.
Anyone who wishes to address the Council in person may do so in the
upcoming weeks...meetings open to the public for this end are each Monday nite,
either at 6 or 8pm. Check the Bellevue.gov website for more info.
Remember: POWER IN NUMBERS!!!
